Due to the economy (or lack thereof), I am contemplating opening my very own Etsy store. I would be selling one of a kind, seasonal, mixed media collages. Since I've never used Etsy before, I'd like to hear your thoughts on this idea. I know a lot of you out there use it, and I absolutely love the products I see there.
I'd like to get some feedback, suggestions, thoughts, and advice from you my fellow bloggers. So please leave your comments. Big thanks to all!

Well I'm not a good one to ask because I haven't quite figured it out yet. I signed up a long time ago, like over year or so, but never actually set up a shop until a few months back. But one of the first things I noticed was that things I would list, would be pages and pages back within a day when searching in that category. So that meant there were a LOT of people listing stuff and the newest items show up first in the search. And I figured that if it were me, I wouldn't sit there for 50-100 pages before I would be sidetracked and have left. So I researched it and there is a school of thought that relisting your items frequently keeps them in the top of the search where you're more likely to be found.
The problem is, I am busy with far too many things for Etsy to be my main focus right now. So relisting my items every couple of days just isn't feasible for me. Not to mention taking all the photos of every item made and making them look good, is quite time consuming too, and I'm a professional photographer. And the whole shipping thing is a whole other ball of wax that I still haven't figured out...very confusing if you ask me.
So I got frustrated and kind of put Etsy on the back burner until I have the kind of time I need to dedicate to it. I go on every now and again and relist something. And I'll make a sell here and there, but the trick is to make something that is really cheap to mail...meaning lightweight. But then you find yourself making jewelry or paper goods which are have large saturated markets.
So I'm still very new at it, I don't have enough to dedicate to making it work for me instead of against me, I find the shipping confusing, and just haven't made much from it yet. But there are those who do great with it too.

Thanks for the advice Wendy, it's always better to know what you're getting into. That way it's a little less frustrating. :-)
I don't expect to make a living off of it (thankfully) but maybe a little side income or pocket cash. I still have a few things to consider but I promise to let you all know what I decide to do!
