Seasonal Transitions - from the Holidays to Winter

I planned to post this about a week ago, but better late than never.

If you haven't done it already, it's time to put away the Holiday decorations.  However, there are a few things that can make the transition into winter very nicely.  Because it's winter, try to use white and silver decorations around the house.  For instance, white flowers with leftover pine or cedar greenery and pine cones.  Or a jar filled with white and silver ornaments or snowflakes.  If you use twinkle or fairy lights around your home, put away the colored ones and string up the clear ones.  Don't forget to change out your candles to white ones too.

As far as scents go, I've found that to be a very personal choice.  But I like to use resinous scents during the winter like pine, frankincense, rosemary, and even mint.  Something that smells crisp.

If you live in the north and crave a bit of color this time of year, add more winter greens or consider blue.  As we get closer to Imbolc try adding some gold and Sun representations to your decor.  Maybe swap out any snowflakes for suns.  As always, use what you have as much as possible and when it comes time to change things around again, save your winter decorations to use again next year.  Just because you use the same items doesn't mean you have to display them in the same way, mix it up a bit each time!

I am so happy to get those holiday decorations down and get my house back that everything goes. Putting up my Imbolc alter always feels so good. It's always white with soft pastels. I live where it snows alot and the pastels remind me of the beautiful sunrises in the morning.

I always cart the decorations away on New Year's eve so I can start the New Year with a fresh clean home. :)

Great ideas! Although I must be honest and say that after the holiday season is over...I am done! I don't even want Ole Man Winter hanging around any longer. It is just one season that I've never been able to embrace. Our decorations are finally down. Giving the house a good cleaning tomorrow. Putting everything back in order and then will spend the whole weekend at Volleyball tournaments. As for me...I'm waiting very impatiently for Spring!

Hope you had a great holiday and your New Year is off to a great start! Positive vibes for 2011!
