November

I do so love the quiet time.  This weekend the October decorations will come down and I can curl up a bit before the crazy days of the Holiday season.  For me this time of year is:

  • Sweaters and boots
  • Hot chocolate and flavored coffee
  • Hearty meals and spicy deserts
  • Curling up with a good book or movie
  • Cloudy days and cool nights
  • Candle light and a blanket on the porch
  • A general sense of peace and calm

It doesn't last long since the Christmas decorations go up on Thanksgiving weekend, but I always looks forward to it and enjoy it as much as possible!

My Christmas decorations go up on Thanksgiving weekend too...ha! Maybe that's a FL thing. I've had people up north and out west say they are already decorating for Christmas...wow! And they Sep. is too early for Halloween...ha! Enjoy your peaceful time! :o)

I totally agree! Early November is such a perfect time to recoup from Halloween and prepare ourselves for the mad rush of December.

November is usually my time to recoup and relax between the holidays, but this year I'm preparing for my very first craft show at the end of the month so no down time for me! I'll be taking November in sips of coffee and cocoa and snuggled up in my favorite sweatshirt while I work.

Ostara vs. Easter

Which do I celebrate?  I saw this type of question a lot around the Holidays last year.  Yule or Christmas, then of course there's the current holiday Ostara or Easter, and let's not leave out Samhain or Halloween.  You get the idea. My question is, why choose?  Very few of us grew up celebrating Yule, Ostara, Samhain or had any idea about the wheel of the year.  When we were kids Spring meant Easter eggs, chocolate bunnies, and lots of candy; Fall brought costumes, going out at night, and more candy; Winter was all about Christmas, Santa Claus, presents, and of course...candy.  There were family traditions that were followed year after year, passed down through the generations and some new ones thrown in occasionally.  These are the things that stuck with us as we became adults and started our own families.  So why should we turn our backs on all those good memories and traditions just because we've chosen a different path for ourselves? New Year's Eve Tradition

I'm not one for setting resolutions.  I have nothing against them mind you, but if I really want to do something I do it no matter what time of year it is.  Also, I think by making this list of new resolutions and "wiping the slate clean", we're missing out on something.  You don't really want to erase every aspect of this year, so instead I offer you a new way to look at the New Year.  Some of you may already do this. Every New Year's Eve I burn candles with intent.  My bayberry candle gets burned on Christmas Eve as it's tradition in my family.  Instead, I burn a white 7-day candle to clear out any negativity (white for purity) and I get a few small tapers representing the things I'd like to invite into my home this year.  Usually it's blue for health, orange (or yellow) for happiness, and green for abundance.  Health, wealth, and happiness...a time honored toast for the New Year.  But use whatever you want or need.  You know the d...
